Lunch with Princesses

I eat lunch with princesses.
I take dinosaurs to the grocery store.
I snuggle superheroes any time they ask.
I kiss the ouches of kangaroos and dance with penguins.
But the most important thing I do as a wife, mother, and minister of my home is to invite the presence of God to live with us.
There is a bible verse framed and nailed to one of the walls in our home. Psalm 26:8 reads, “Lord, I love the place where you live, the place where your glory dwells.” This verse has become a mission statement for me. I want to create a place for the glory of God to reside. I know he lives within us, but I want His presence to be tangible in our home. I want my girls to be familiar with His Holy Spirit.
“In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” Psalm 94:19
As my girls grow older, there will be times when my kisses will not be enough to heal wounds. My hugs may not be enough to chase away fears. My words may not quiet anxieties. But as part of my ministry to our home, I am showing our girls how to access the one who has all the answers.
Psalm 97:5 says that even, “the mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.” What a powerful concept to teach our children! In the presence of God, mountains melt! This means, when our children face opposition or difficulties, in the presence of God they will find help. We are not designed to be the solution to our children’s problems. We are tasked with teaching them how to find the solution. We must show them how to live in the presence of God.
For our home, this looks like living in an atmosphere of worship. We sing songs to God. We listen to music while eating our breakfast. We pray together, inviting God to be an active part of our day. We dance together. We thank Him for his blessings and goodness. I have seen my oldest daughter without prompting, drop her toys and lift her hands to worship God. We love the place where His glory dwells!
“A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else.” Psalm 84:10
Out of our time spent in the presence of God, we are also able to minister outside the walls of our home. We are surrounded by people who are hopeless and hurting but we have the answer. It is not enough for us to abide in the presence of God but we must share Him with others, pointing them in the direction of our strength.
“For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” Psalm 107:9
As you go about your day, I encourage you to invite the presence of God to dwell in your home. Let Him fill the atmosphere and engage with you. Share your strength with others. Whether you eat lunch with princesses, dinosaurs, superheroes, or children, teach them to access the presence of God as well!
