He Instantly Worshipped

Most of us know the story of David and Bathsheba. His horrible act of sleeping with his most faithful servants wife and then ordering him to be killed in order to hide his sin. You may be able to hide your sin from man but not God. So God sent His prophet Nathan to rebuke David.

God is so funny in just how sneaky He starts out. He tells David a parable about “another man” to get a reaction out of David, when in fact it was set up to reveal David’s sin. To show him clearly how wrong his actions were.

Nathan rebukes David – 2 Samuel 12

The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.

Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.

David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! 6He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.”

Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!

How do we react when we feel disappointed or when God doesn’t answer our prayers the way we think He should? What is our immediate reaction?

There is a reason “David was a man after God’s own heart.” Acts 13:22 Not because he was perfect but because he stayed repentant.

I know this is easier said than done but when you have the right perspective and perception of Jesus our loving father, then it changes everything.

Let’s Pray

“Lord, may I be the one that worships you in every situation. Keep my heart humble and repentant. Thank you for your kindness, faithfulness and mercy on my life. Amen.”

David then humbly admitted his wrongs. God’s punishment for such a deed was that his son, yet to be born, would not live. David begged God to spare his sons life. He fasted, laid on the ground weeping for days and wouldn’t eat but God came through on His word. As soon as his servants told him the bad news, he did what stunned me.

Get this, the bible says, “as soon as he heard the news that his son died he got up, washed himself and he instantly worshiped the Lord.

He didn’t get upset with God, stay under the sheets depressed or check in on his wife. This would of been normal reactions. Instead he immediately went to worship God. Then he went to eat and check in on his wife.
